A Drug Free community coalition working together for the greater good of Detroit’s Westside.
The Coalition for Urban Youth and Family Development is comprised of a number of like-minded community organizations throughout the city of Detroit, who are united for common goals: improving outcomes in Detroit by advocating for substance abuse prevention and revitalizing our city.
CUFYD has helped reach over 50,000 Westside residents with substance abuse prevention messages and resources through public education campaigns, public forums, workshops, summits, community outreach projects and programs. Click below to learn more about our work in the community.
By our coalition via the Drug Free Communities Grant to combat youth substance abuse and revitalize our city in just our first 4 years of existence!
Our coalition is comprised of representatives of 12 different sectors of community stakeholders including: Youth, Parents, Business, Media, School, Law Enforcement, Youth Serving Org, Religious/Fraternal Orders, and Healthcare Professionals.
With substance abuse prevention messages and resources through public education campaigns, public forums, workshops, summits, community outreach projects and programs.
The Coalition for Urban Youth and Family Development has a 12-month strategic plan to combat substance abuse and revitalize our community. We will accomplish this by building and strengthening our coalition, assessing our communities needs, engaging coalition members in activities that further our mission/meet our goals, and evaluating our outcomes.
CUYFD collaborates with our community partners to hold a series of town hall meetings to advocate in our community about the downsides of marijuana legalization. We educate youth about the negative effects of marijuana use in our #BluntTruth hashtag.
With an opioid epidemic sweeping the nation, our work to combat heroin and prescription drug abuse is more important now than ever. Through heroin awareness education and a prescription pill media campaign we hope to finish this fight once and for all.
Reducing Underage drinking is another focal point of CUYFD education and advocacy efforts. We engage youth via our Above The Influence campaign in our community to give them the truth about alcohol and what to do when its offered to them.
CUYFD continuously evaluates the effectivness of our programs and the impact that they are having in our community. We hope to see over all substance use rates continue fall as we engage our coalition and work in our community.
The Coalition for Urban Youth and Family Development hosts a number of community based events to further our mission to improve outcomes for west side Detroit youth and revitalize our community.
